Dont lose your hair like Naomi

Naomi campbell has worn straight extensions over her naturally curly hair for a number of years. Experts say this may have permanently damaged her natural follicles. Marilyn Sherlock, from the Institute of Trichologists, which represents hair loss specialists, added: 'It looks like traction alopecia, hair loss caused by the use of extensions.'

Traction alopecia occurs when the extensions pull on the natural hair causing it to break. It usually affects the hairline just above the forehead or the sides, where the hair is weaker. It can take between three months to a year for hair to grow back in moderate But if the pulling continues the hair will never grow back and the only option is a hair transplant

Traction Alopecia damages the dermal papilla and hair follicle by constant pulling or tension over a long period. It often occurs in persons who wears tight braids, especially "cornrows" that lead to high tension, pulling and breakage of hair.

This condition is most common in black women and men who braid their hair too tightly. it is reversible if diagnosed early, but may lead to permanent hair loss if it is undetected for a protracted period. Hair loss is often in the frontal and temporal regions, but also depends on the hair style. With those who wear cornrows, the area most commonly affected is that adjacent to the region that is braided.

Traction Alopecia can also occur due to overprocessing of the hair. Chemical treatment of hair with dyes, bleaches, or straighteners disrupts the keratin structure in a manner that reduces its tensile strength. The hair can become fragile and heavy fall out can occur with brushing or combing.

The use of thermal or chemical hair straightening, and hair braiding or weaving are examples of styling techniques that place black women at high risk for various "traumatic" alopecias.

Studies show one in seven children and a third of women who have these hairstyles suffer hair loss caused by traction alopecia.

The key to stopping traction alopecia is detecting it early. Hair styles that put unnecessary strain on the hair root must be changed for "looser, more gentle hair style. Women who suspect they may be vulnerable to traction alopecia should take action immediately to change their hair style and see a trichologist.

Unfortunately, no medical treatment is available to reverse late-stage traction alopecia. Hair grafts have been identified as the only practical solution.

So ladies, we need to think of the health of our natural hair while fixing extensions. give you hair a break...let it breathe..let your natural hair out...afterall its all yours :-)

  7. I am an African now studying in Thailand and I want to straighten my hair so that I look good among my comrades, but I am scared because my hair isn't so natural, while still in Africa did a touch to my hair with some chemical, not sure if won't lose hair as Naomi Campbell.

  8. Dr Miracles doesn't have any effect on the hair even if your actual hair is tingling already from traction aleopia. I recently took my weave out 6 weeks ago wore it for about 4 years wearing my hair natural. I have bald spots in different areas of my hair. I have no intentions of ever wearing a weave again.

    1. I used Minivol. It worked wonders. people don't care for their hair when they wear a weave. They just snatch it out , never ever use the correct product how to uninstall it. my hair is completely natural 3 years it reaches my shoulders and I don't have any bald spots.
I take the weave out , why I wash condition itovernight saturated with coconut oil 100 percent from the health food store get up in the morning braid all that hair up and we weave its right back up. Only thing i feel bad about is i don't wear my hair long enough due to shrinkage and I really am not that fond of natural styles. I love weave, but i truly take care of the king size fro underneath.

  12. Two to three weeks is a good idea. I hadn't had a weave in 10 months I had been wearing my hair natural. I just got a weave lastnight. I wanted a different look

  13. Use natural products...jojoba oil, coconut oil, aloe...trust me it works. Also, although costly Carol's Daughter products. Especially for those looking to go natural but honestly some natural home remedies will work just as well.

  14. None of those so called Africa American products work they just weigh your scalp down and cause other things to happen that shouldn't! Simply save your money and use something with karaton in it. Oh and its called genetics..

  15. Traction Alopecia isnt genetically programmed in people It is basically when hair follicles stop producing hair caused by the use of relaxers and harsh handling of hair(knotting, pulling, tight brading, sufficating weaves etc....So it dosnt come with predisposed genes.:)
The most successful way to get the hair back on the bald spots is having a hair transplant surgery in which they will remove some follicles from a healthy area on your head and put them on the bald area. The moved follicles
will start producing hair and cover the bald area within a couple of months and continue growing just as your normal hair. You can NOT adress traction alopecia with deep conditioners, DR MIRACLE wont help you with this one, nor will Keratine or Marrocan oil. Can you glue back a broken arm?:D. But you can use these oils in prevention.

  18. If hair extensions are put in wrong or pulled on tooo tight then you will lose your hair. thats why before getting a weave make sure the person is a professional or does not pull on your hair!!!!! and relaxers only make you bald if you leave them in too long. nothin is too bad for you you justhave to take care of yourself. i am african american with waist length hair RELAXED hair and i have it this long because i take care of it very well. and i grew my hair out by wearing weaves.

    1. That is right and true. I grew my hair out the same way. I just love the weaves the less i do to it the better it grows. I'm going to see how long it gets. I love know I have to get creative with the braid pattern because of the length
